![]() ![]() The browser feature is so simple that it actually becomes useful. When you need to access a panel, just slide your mouse left, up or down and access is achieved. ![]() I have it set for a large empty window, and it really makes a difference to have your image fill all available space for adjustment judgements. The user interface is one of the app's strongest features, this is one of the few apps that actually has the sliding panel option utilized correctly. I purchased PhotoNinja since I qualified for the upgrade discount from owning NoiseNinja. The cost of the program is a little higher (for me) than the upgrade from LR3 to LR4 but the support staff is a lot more responsive than Adobe will ever be.Ĭomments about usage and image quality? Thanks. I have found the software to be very good at some things but lacking some of the functionality that I have come to rely on with Lightroom - such things as masking and the ability to call an external editor from within the software. I was wondering what people's experience has been with the newly released PhotoNinja. ![]() Perhaps it is the simple and straight-forward UI but the more I use it the better I like it. Still I really, really like the software and think that I will like it more when I am better at knowing how to properly adjust the lighting. I don't know why. It takes considerable time to open each image and I keep having to remind myself to close an image before I open the next (I kept running out of memory until I realized it was not the same workflow as Lightroom). I keep finding myself drawn back to it from my normal usage of LR. Not meant as a criticism either of you of PN. The bottom of the vertical tail that sticks out the back (whatever it is called) seems sharper to me in the PSE/NN2 image. For what it's worth it seemed to me that some parts of the PSE/NN2 image were sharper on the outside of the tail cowling although there seemed to be more detail on the inside of the cowling in the PN image. I would like to see a color picker for the Color Enhancement adjustment area and they told me that is on their list also. Masking and a Heal/Clone tool would be nice. I have been using PN for some time now and never noticed. My first thought was that PN had just made a mistake in computing the width and height but, when I compared the same photo in DPP, Canon's editor, and PN I actually found the extra pixels on the side and found that the image was actually visibly larger. After reading your post I opened PN and took a look to see what it says is the size. I shoot with a Canon 5D3 and the nominal size of the images, as stated by Canon, is 5760 x 3840. I have to admit that I never noticed that before. In particular I was disappointed in its noise reduction as compared to LR and PN. Not so much by what you can do with it, but rather that its functionality, at US $300, does not seem that much greater to me than Lightroom. (EDIT - OK, how do we show 100% crops with this new forum, this picture is coming out a lot smaller?) This is a 100% crop of an ISO100 shot, normal I prefer a bit of noise to keep detail intact but now I don't need to at ISO100, though I am still tweaking it so I might reduce the NR a touch more yet and tweak a few other things. It would be nice to see a few things added such as a cloning tool and it would be nice to be able to do selective sharpening and NR (Noise Ninja had a noise brush). At the moment they are working on making it a plug-in for PhotoShop. I think the guys at PictureCode have start with image quality and easy of use in mind and will build it from there. LR and C1 are very nice programs with the ability to tweak a lot things but for me PN makes my workflow very quick, it loads up pretty instantly and just feels a lot slicker. All the others give me a 4928x3264 image (note this is Nikon's quote output size for the D7000) whereas PN give me a 4948x3280 picture, that's 144,448 more pixels! Other programs crop these pixels off because the extreme edge of the sensor is not considered as accurate but I've found useful detail here that I never new I had. PN is the only program that I have found that gives you the entire picture that you took. The Noise Ninja version that comes in PN handles noise completely different to the previous version, if I want I can completely remove any evidence of grainy noise at 100% while keeping slightly more detail. I found it to be slightly better than LR and pretty much on par with C1. I compared it to Lightroom 4.2 and Capture One V7. But it came down to several things for me.įirst the overall image quality. Since I own Noise Ninja the price for me wasn't too bad. ![]() ![]() The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows.
